Eight more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Chandigarh as 801 fresh cases surfaced on Thursday. With this, the active cases jumped to 6652 in the city.
The total caseload was recorded at 41923 while the death toll stood at 465, according to Chandigarh’s health bulletin. In the last 24 hours, one person each died at Sector 20, 23, 40, 45, Maloya, Burail, Dhanas and Mauli Jagran due to COVID-19. 431 male and 370 female residents were tested positive. A maximum of 43 cases were reported in Manimajra.
447 patients have recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 34806 in the city. 4.01 lakh samples have so far been tested in the city in which 3821 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Administration has notified 33 new micro-containment zones in the city to stop the spread of infection.
The micro-containment zones were notified in Sectors 7, 18, 19, 21, 27, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 44, 51, Dadumajra, Kajheri, Daria, Mauli complex, Manimajra Housing Complex, Vikas Nagar, Indira colony.
COVID PATIENT JUMPS TO DEATH FROM 4TH FLOOR IN PGIMER
A 42-year-old COVID-19 patient who was undergoing treatment at the PGIMER jumped to his death from the fourth floor of the hospital on Thursday.
While police said they are investigating the matter, the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), in a statement, said the Panchkula resident was admitted to the institute on April 11.
“He was COVID-19 positive and under treatment for post-COVID fungal pneumonia. He was adequately treated in RICU (Respiratory Intensive Care Unit) and shifted to a private ward on April 28,” the statement said.
The patient jumped out of the window of his room on Thursday afternoon, it said.
“Immediately after that he was taken to (PGIMER) emergency, where he was declared dead. The patient was under treatment for anxiety by the psychiatry department,” the statement stated.
