An MoU worth Rs 441 lakh was signed between Central Coalfields Limited and Institute of Forest Productivity at CCL HQ, Darbhaga House, Ranchi. Institute of Forest Productivity. (IFP) is a research institute located in Ranchi under Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India with an expertise in ecological reclamation of overburden dumps and mined out areas. Chief Manager (Environment), CCL Alok Kumar Tripathy and Dr Nitin Kulkarni, (Director), IFP inked the MOU.
Under the terms of MoU, a scientific study will be undertaken for Development of methodology for conservation and utilization of soil and transplantation of native ecosystem for mine site restoration. The study will encompass a plethora of topics including Landscape designing, Floral diversity study of the sites, screening of suitable species, soil amendments, plantation techniques, Assessment of effect of plantation on physio- chemical properties of mine soil screening of species on the basis of performance. Initially the sites identified for the same are Rajrappa, Amrapali and Ashoka operational areas of the company and the duration will be five years.
Central Coalfields Limited is committed to biodiversity preservation and implements various programs for environmental protection and preservation. Speaking on the occasion CMD, Prasad said that the company is committed to fulfill the energy demands of the country through sustainable mining. He further added that initiatives like this are a testimony of the company's dedication towards environmental protection.
