The Chhattisgarh government on Saturday gave in principle consent for holding a Road Safety World Series cricket tournament from March 2 to 21 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium at Mandir Hasaud.
The Additional Transport Commissioner sent thet letter to the Chief Operating Officer, Professional Management Group Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, an official communication said.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel gave his consent for tournament to be held in Raipur earlier. The tournament's Commissioner is eminent cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.
The tournament will see players from India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Australia and the West Indies including Sachin Tendulkar, Jonty Rhodes, Brett Lee, Brian Lara and Muttiah Muralitharan.
The main objective of the tournament is to make people aware of the importance of road safety in India.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved the tournament and it is supported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. In the state, the Transport, Sports and Youth Welfare department will jointly host the event.
