The Chhattisgarh Assembly on Monday paid homage to nine former members and ex-MPs who passed away during the inter-session period as it began a five-day Monsoon session. Tributes were also paid to soldiers killed in the Kargil war.
Speaker Dr Charan Das Mahant made the obituary reference of Gulab Singh, ex-member of the Assembly, Somprakash Giri, Balaram Verma and Balram Singh Bais, former members of the undivided Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Karuna Shukla, a former MP, Badridhar Diwan, a former Deputy Speaker, Dr Shakrajeet Nayak, a former Minister of State, Ramadhar Kashyap, a former Rajya Sabha member, and Khelan Ram Jangde, a former Lok Sabha member. He said Chhattisgarh and its people have lost key political and social workers.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel shared his experience of working with most of the leaders in the undivided Madhya Pradesh Assembly and later in the Chhattisgarh Assembly.
Paying tributes to the Indian soldiers on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Baghel said they won the war due to their indomitable spirit and fearlessness even in inhospitable conditions. Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, Dharamjeet Singh (JCC-J), Keshav Chandra (BSP) and other members also paid tributes to the departed leaders and the Kargil heroes.
