In a tragic incident in Budaun, a 10-year-old child inadvertently asphyxiated himself with a noose on Thursday while rehearsing a play on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh to be staged on Independence Day on August 15 in his school.

As per reports, Shivam of Babaat village was to play the role of martyr Bhagat Singh at a play to be showcased in his school on August 15. On Thursday, while rehearsing with his friends at his home, Shivam climbed atop a stool and slipped a noose around his neck which was tied to a hook in the ceiling. Moments later, he tragically slipped from the stool and the noose tightened around his neck causing instant death. Unable to be of any help to Shivam, his friends screamed for help which attracted the attention of the neighbours. As they rushed into the room, they found Shivam hanging.

The deceased's parents were away at the time of the incident and on being informed, they rushed home. Later the family cremated the child without informing the police and no FIR was lodged in this regard.

Elsewhere in Muzaffarnagar, three women, including a minor, lost their lives while four others suffered injuries when the roof of their house collapsed due to incessant rains in the region in Begarajpur village under Mansoorpur police station on Thursday night.

The injured were rushed to a hospital, where Zubeda (35), Mina (65) and Alisha (12) were pronounced dead by the doctors while Imtiyaz (45), Saira (40), Nagma (21) and Pervez were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.

Meanwhile, in a shocking incident reported from Amroha, a man killed his three-year-old son after failing to get a ‘buyer' for him in Dhanora area on Tuesday.

The accused was trying to sell his toddler son for Rs 3 lakh to get rid of poverty. The accused, identified as Mohd Naushad, works as a labourer and he was arrested on Wednesday after his father complained to police about the death of his grandson.

The wife of the accused told the police that Naushad was adamant on selling the baby as he wanted money for alcohol and gambling and when she opposed him, there were regular fights between them.

"On Tuesday, Naushad sent his wife to borrow a phone charger from a neighbour in Dhanora Mandi area. However, she became suspicious and returned in a hurry. Once at the house, she saw Naushad choking the child as he had lost consciousness. She immediately took the son to a hospital but the child was pronounced dead.

Angry over the issue, Naushad's father approached the police and lodged an FIR.

During a preliminary probe, it surfaced that the couple got married four years back and had two children. Naushad is both an alcohol addict and a gambler. To get rid of poverty, he wanted to sell his son but could not find a buyer and hence he killed him in frustration. He was arrested and sent to jail.
