After winning majority of the district panchayat chairpersons’ posts, the polls of which were held early this month in Uttar Pradesh, the ruling BJP is set to repeat the feat again in the block pramukh polls slated later this week for which a brainstorming meeting was held at party’s state headquarters and was attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The meeting which started at 5 pm continued for almost three hours in which candidates’ list for the block pramukh polls was finalised, a senior BJP leader said here on Tuesday.
BJP state president Swatantra Dev Singh, in-charge of party in UP Radha Mohan Singh and state general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal took part in the deliberations.
The nomination for the block pramukh elections will be on July 8 and polling will be held on July 10.
After many family members of senior party leaders, ministers and lawmakers got elected as chairpersons of district panchayat committees, the party has diluted the clause of preventing family members from contesting the election. “A high-level committee will finalise the names of the candidates and they will be announced by the district unit president in respective districts,” BJP spokesman Sanjay Chaudhary said.
Claiming that the BJP will repeat its feat like the DDC (district development council) chairpersons’ polls held early this month, he said that the party was well prepared for the block pramukh elections.
“We have already appointed conveners along with a strong team of leaders in all the 826 blocks of the state, who have worked hard among the people. We are expecting very good results " he said.
The elections will be held in 825 blocks as polling has not been ordered in Mujehana block in Gonda district by the State Election Commission. Around 75,255 elected block development council (BDC) members will elect the block pramukhs, who will be a member among themselves.
Meanwhile, the UP BJP which had announced to conduct a virtual state working committee meeting on July 7 postponed it in view of the block pramukh polls.
