BJP demands State Govt to reduce VAT on petrol, diesel

Sunday, 07 November 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

As the Centre gave a major relief to people by reducing the price of petrol and diesel, the BJP in Jharkhand has now demanded the Hemant Soren Government to reduce the prices. The BJP, which is the Opposition party in Jharkhand demanded the Government should reduce the price of petrol and diesel by `5 and`10.

Jharkhand BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash said this at a press conference that the Hemant Soren-led JMM-Congress-RJD government should stop shedding crocodile tears and take steps for the welfare of people.

"After the Centre reduced the price the opposition parties have just gone silent when it comes to taking similar steps to reduce the price. Opposition parties have just been exposed since it had shouted much on the price hike. We demand the Jharkhand government to revise VAT on petroleum products and give similar relief to people as the Centre has done," Prakash said.

He said that while all NDA-ruled state governments have introduced major cuts in the petroleum price, State governments ruled by opposition parties are now evasive on this issue. Currently, the Jharkhand government charges 22 per cent VAT on petrol and diesel. Further, the government charges additional Rs 1 as cess per liter of petrol. In this way, the government charges Rs 17 per liter on petrol and  Rs 12.50 per liter on diesel.   He said that the way Hemant Soren's government is evading the demand for a decrease it has exposed the double face of the government.

Regarding reducing the price of petrol and diesel, Prakash said that BJP is serious on this and today a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner in all the districts.

Meanwhile, taking a jibe at the government over the rigging in the JPSC PT examination, the BJP state president said that the result clearly shows that the examination has been rigged. Not only this, the CM's home district Sahebganj, Finance Minister's home district Lohardaga and Latehar The exam center is involved in rigging. This clearly shows that the state government wants to throw JPSC in corruption, he added.

He said that the credibility of JPSC has fallen; the State government should work to give justice to the youth by conducting a fair investigation of the PT examination.

Speaking on the cancelled examination, Prakash said that the state government has declared this year as the year of appointment and instead of giving appointment this year, the state government is working to snatch the appointments.
