As announced earlier, the BJD on Monday kicked off its three-day State-wide agitation against the unprecedented hike in price of LPG.
Hundreds of members of Biju Mahila Janata Dal, Biju Yuva Janata Dal and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal staged demonstrations in front of the RDC office at Cuttack and the ADM and IOCL offices in Bhubaneswar.
Biju Mahila Janata Dal members were seen cooking on a chullah (earthen stove) in protest against the steep rise in the cooking gas price.
“The Modi Government had launched the Ujjwala Yojana claiming that it was for the benefit of housewives. But those assurances have fallen flat as the Centre has failed to regulate the price of cooking gas which is affecting each and every woman.,” said an agitating BJD women wing member.
Another BJD member said, “The price of LPG has gone up by 123% in the last three years. An LPG cylinder now costs around Rs 926. We demand reduction in cooking gas rate.”
The party would hold agitation outside the RDC offices in Sambalpur on Tuesday and in Brahmapur on Wednesday.
