As per the registered will of Mahant Narendra Giri, his disciple Balbeer Giri will be his successor and the next Mahant of Math Baghambari Gaddi.
His ‘pattabhishek’ will take place on October 5 when the ‘Shodashi’ rites of Mahant Narendra Giri are scheduled.
Earlier, the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad saints had decided to anoint the next Mahant after the CBI probe was over but after going through the will of Mahant Narendra Giri, it was agreed upon that Balbeer Giri will be made the successor as the CBI probe might take years and the Math cannot be left headless for so long.
Mahant Narendra Giri had expressed his desire to see Balbeer on his seat after his death in the alleged suicide note, which was termed fake by secretary of Juna Akhara, Hari Giri Maharaj. However, the registered will of the late Mahant in favour of Balbeer compelled the saints to reconsider their decision and ultimately they agreed to make him the next Mahant.
Meanwhile, the CBI has taken Anand Giri to Dehradun and Haridwar. A CBI team took him to Dehradun, while the other two arrested accused — Adya Prasad Tiwari and Sandeep — have been kept in the police lines.
During its probe, the CBI came to know that the CCTV cameras of the Math Baghambari Gaddi were not functioning on September 20 afternoon when the Mahant was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Initially, it was said that the cameras stopped functioning due to a power breakdown in the area. However, it surfaced during the probe that the power supply was disrupted for about 40 minutes and the Math had an inverter and a heavy-duty generator due to which there was no power outage in the Math at all.
The CBI took the issue seriously and it came to the fore that the cameras had been switched off intentionally.
In Haridwar, a thief was caught by ashram inmates. The accused had stolen something from the room of Anand Giri. The thief was handed over to the police and he could be interrogated by the CBI. Though there is no official statement by the CBI, Anand Giri is claiming to be innocent.
