The Chhattisgarh Assembly on Friday rejected a private resolution moved by Shivratan Sharma (BJP) for total liquor prohibition in the state from January 1. Fifty-eight members voted against and 13 in favour during a vote division.
Raising the issue, Sharma said the Congress election manifesto for 2018 had promised total prohibition. The party leaders had taken ‘Gangajal’ to take oath. This was denied by Congress members.
This led to trading of charges by the opposition and treasury benches.
Forest Minister Mohammed Akbar threw light on three committees to discuss the issue.
