For the third consecutive day, Punjab recorded a death toll of 100, pushing the State’s total fatalities due to Covid-19 to 8,909 at the case fatality rate of 2.44 per cent which is double than the national rate of 1.4 per cent.
A total of 138 patients succumbed to the deadly contagion, with more than half (55 per cent) reported from just five districts — whopping 21 deaths were reported from Bathinda; followed by 18 from Ludhiana; 14 from Amritsar; 12 from Sangrur; and 11 from Patiala.
Besides, eight casualties were reported from Mohali; seven from Jalandhar; six each from Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur; five each from Pathankot; four each from Mansa, Nawanshahr, Muktsar, Faridkot, and Tarn Taran; three from Ferozepur; two each from Fatehgarh Sahib and Ropar; and one each from Barnala, Fazilka, and Moga.
A day before, the state reported the highest ever single day figure of 142 deaths, while 100 casualties were reported on Tuesday (April 27). As many 6,812 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus were registred across the state in the past 24 hours, taking the state’s Covid-19 infection tally to 3,64,910 with 54,954 active cases (15.06 percent) while 3,01,047 patients (82.50 percent) have recovered.
According to the daily media bulletin, a total of 648 patients are on oxygen support; while 97 critical patients are on ventilator support.
