The Chhattisgarh government has declared August 20 (Friday) as a public holiday on account of ‘Muharram’. The General Administration Department earlier declared the holiday on August 19 under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Muslim bodies argued that according to the moon, the ‘Day of Ashura’ will fall on August 20. This led to the fresh announcement.
