Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray — who had steadfastly refused to wear a face mask all through the pandemic period — and his mother Kunda Thackeray and sister Jayawanti have tested positive for Covid-19.
Raj, Kunda and Jayawanti were rushed to Lilavati Hospital, after three of them tested for minor symptoms of Covid-19.
Confirming the development, the MNS leader and close confidant of Raj Thackeray Bala Nandgaonkar said: “His mother Kunda Thackeray tested positive first while Raj and sister Jaywanti also contracted the virus later.. They have been taken to Lilavati Hospital”.
Nandgaonkar said that Raj, his mother and sister Jaywanti had taken both the doses of vaccines early this year.
Dr. Jalil D. Parkar, Department of Chest Medicine at the Lilavati, said was undergoing “anti-body cocktail” therapy at the hospital.
The therapy, which is a cocktail of two monoclonal antibodies, is said to reduce the hospitalisation by 70 per cent in patients with mild to moderate Covid-19 symptoms.
Raj, who is the cousin of Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, has not been keeping well. He had cancelled all his engagements before he underwent the Covid-19 test in which he tested positive.
Raj, it may be recalled, ha+ earlier gone on SIU saying that: "I don't wear a mask at all." He had even visited without wearing masks.
