There has been a continuous decline in cases since India reported a peak, including a progressive decrease in cases in districts. India logged 37,566 new cases in the last 24 hours, dropping under 40,000 for the first time since March 19 and bringing the country’s total to over 30.3 million. Deaths rose by 907 -- remaining below 1,000 for the second straight day -- to 397,637.
Recovery rate stands at 96.9 per cent, said Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry at a press conference here.
He said, recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for the 47th consecutive day. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,93,66,601, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.31 per cent.
It is for the second time in over two and half months that the death toll has come below the 1,000-mark and the 11th consecutive day in the last two months when the toll has been below the 2,000-mark.
