The Rajya Sabha witnessed unruly scenes and repeated adjournment for the ninth successive day on Saturday. Upset over the behavior of the agitating members, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu warned them not to test the “patience” of the house. He termed the disturbances as a “new low.”He made these observations as soon as the House met for the day and some members raised a din over the Pegasus controversy.
Taking exception to some members even whistling in the house and standing in front of the ministers with placards when ministers are speaking, Naidu urged them to maintain decorum and dignity of the Rajya Sabha. He said there are two ways to deal with this. “Allow the House to become a bazaar or take action (against those not following decorum),” Naidu said. “I feel sorry to say this from the podium…I never expected my members to go that level.” he said protesting, walking out and opposing the government were part of the proceedings, but the dignity and traditions of the House have to be followed.
He warned the members that patience has its limit, and no one should “exhaust the patience of the House.” However, the protesting members were unrelenting and continued to rush into the well of the house and shouting slogans.
The pre-lunch session saw two adjournments in the pre-lunch session. Similar scenes were seen in the post lunch session and the house was adjourned for the day till Monday.
