Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday declared that Education Minister K Sivankutty would not resign in the backdrop of Wednesday’s Supreme Court verdict in the case of 2015 vandalism in the Legislative Assembly.
The Chief Minister also said that the action of the then Speaker to file a police complaint against the ruckus was wrong. Though the Kerala Government had wanted to withdraw the case of ruckus in the House in which Sivankutty and five other MLAs were named accused, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition and asked the MLAs named in the complaint to stand trial.
Vijayan was replying to the demand made by the Congress-led Opposition which demanded the resignation of the Minister. “We will face the situation legally and there is no need for Sivankutty to resign. Is there any such precedence in the House?” asked the Chief Minister.
Elsewhere in the State, students and youth wings of the BJP and the Congress staged marches in violation of the prohibitory orders demanding the resignation of the Minister.
