Friday, 30 April 2021 | Pradeep Saxena | Hathras

Six people died after drinking liquor in the villages Nagla Sighi and Nagla Prahlad of Hathras Gate area. It is being told that two days ago, during the worship of the deity Pir Baba, alcohol was offered under the custom. Some people’s health worsened after drinking the same alcohol. A total of six people died in a span of two days. Treatment of eight people is going on in Aligarh. Police have arrested the person selling the liquor. An incharge and a constable have been suspended for negligence.

The residents of Hathras Gate area live in the villages Nagla Sighi and Nagla Prahlad. People there worshiped Kuldevata Baba Pir. There is a custom in this that in worship, people of the society offer liquor to their deity and consume the same liquor as Prasad. After drinking this, the condition of 12 people worsened. Family members alleged that 20 quarters of liquor was taken from  Ramhari of village for worship. After drinking it, the condition of four people deteriorated on tuesday, out of which Lakhon Singh, 60, died.

In the evening, 40-year-old Ashok, 55-year-old Netrapal resident of Nagla Sighi and 65-year-old Balveer, resident of Nagla Prahlad died. A villager informed the police about this. Late in the night, the District Magistrate Ramesh Ranjan, SP Vineet Jaiswal reached the village and investigated. Sent the bodies for postmortem. On Wednesday morning, 58-year-old Mohan Singh, resident of Nagla Prahlad and 55-year-old Sohan Singh, resident of Nagla Sighi succumbed during treatment. Ishwari, Rambabu, Naresh, Janu, Natia, Krishna, Banna, Lekhraj are being treated in Aligarh.

Police have arrested Ramhari, who sells liquor illegally in the village. Nearly two dozen empty liquor quarters have been found from him. Scanning the bar code revealed that it was purchased from two liquor shops in Hathras. The excise team sealed two local liquor shops located at Sasni Gate Khati khana and Madhav Vihar Colony. SP suspended incharge Ramdas Pachauri, constable Riku Singh for negligence. A departmental inquiry has been ordered against SHO Jagdish Chandra for his role in this case.

Vineet Jaiswal, SP Hathras said that a total of six people have died in Nagla Sighi and Nagla Prahlad so far.

The postmortem has kept the ground safe as the cause of death is not clear. A lawsuit has been filed against Ramhari for selling liquor illegally under relevant sections.

After the death of six people by drinking liquor in the villages Nagla Sighi and Nagla Prahlad, everyone has the same question, how did six people die? If liquor was from a government contract shop, then how did it die due to its drinking. At the same time, people are talking about death from poisonous liquor, although it has not been confirmed in the post-mortem, so the ground has been kept safe. Efforts are also being made to link this incident with the election of Pradhani and to give it a political form in the village. However, the police-administration has denied any such thing.
