Raipur's Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Chhattisgarh's biggest, on Wednesday said a group which cremates unclaimed bodies is to blame for the video in which a man's body is shown unattended at the hospital’s mortuary.
The hospital management clarified that the responsibility to take care of unclaimed bodies rests with the organization which cremates them which it said was not done in this case.
The group, without arranging a vehicle, took out the body from the mortuary, creating misinformation about the hospital, it said in a press release.
Police on July 6 found a 50-year-old man at Raipur’s Motibagh Chowk and admitted him in the Ambedkar Hospital where he was treated, the statement said. On July 11 he died of cardio respiratory arrest.
The man’s body was then shifted to the mortuary and the police were informed as they perform the last rites of unidentified persons. After three days the body was handed over to an organization cremating the bodies, the press release said.
There is no provision of keeping the bodies in the open, it added.
In this case, it was the responsibility of the organization contacted by the police to arrange to transport the body. However, they took out the body without proper arrangement, which spread misinformation about the hospital, the statement said.
