The Uttarakhand unit of Congress party has decided to intensify its agitation against the spiralling prices of diesel and petrol. The party would undertake a mass contact programme in the state and inform people about the increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas and its consequence.
On Wednesday the Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress, Surya Kant Dhasmana told the media persons at the Rajiv Bhawan that the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Pritam Singh has declared a plan of agitation on the issue. As per the plan the Congress would hold protests at petrol pumps on every Monday starting from July 6.
Dhasmana said that the Congress leaders and workers would form small groups of seven people and hold protests at the petrol pumps in all parts of the state.
The PCC president would kick-start the state-wide agitation by holding a protest at a petrol pump in Dehradun at 11.30 am on July 6. In the protest, senior leaders of the party including former ministers, MLA, office bearers of state, district and block units would participate. They would observe social distancing norms and hold placards in their hands.
The Congress workers would also distribute pamphlets to people visiting the petrol pumps and inform them that the government is increasing the prices of petrol and diesel even as the international prices of crude oil are going down. Dhasmana said that the agitation would be held for one hour on every Monday till the government reduces the prices of petrol and diesel.
