Ten-day lockdown in Durg from Sep 20

nAs Covid cases shoot up in Chhattisgarh, Durg district on Thursday decided to impose a 10-day lockdown starting from September 20.

According to an order from District Collector Dr Sarveshwar Narendra Bhure, the lockdown will last till September 30.

“The lockdown will be effective in Durg, Bhilai, Bhilai Charoda, Risali, Jamul and Kumhari,” the Collector said in the order. 

By September 16, Durg district reported 7,008 Covid cases. Currently, there are 3,973 active cases in Durg while 59 deaths were reported.

All governmental offices will function with one third attendance during the lockdown. All educational institutions will be closed except for admission purposes, the order said.

Cinema halls, swimming pools, bars, gyms and similar places of public gathering will be suspended. In religious places, prayers will be performed as per earlier directives but all public, cultural, social events will be banned.

Public transport system, private taxi, auto rickshaw and e-rickshaw will not be allowed. But inter-district and inter-state bus services will function.

The lockdown will not affect emergency services, the order stated.

A week-long lockdown has been already imposed in Mungeli district from September 17 to 23 due to surge in Coronavirus cases.

Similarly, a lockdown was imposed from September 4 to September 12 in Rajnandgaon district as the Covid-19 cases shot up.
