The prices of almost all vegetables have shot up across the State and Jharsuguda is no exception.
The trend is causing hardships to the public and has budget od the households.
The prices of onion, potato, tomato, cauliflower, beans, green chilly, ladies finger, brinjal, capsicum have been the highest ever, for which the common man finds it difficult to manage the daily expenditure of the household.
The retail price of onion is Rs 70 per kg, which was earlier Rs 25 per kg. Likewise, potato and tomato are now sold at Rs 50-Rs 70 per kg as against the earlier price of Rs 25 to Rs 30. Capsicum is sold at Rs 80 per kg and beans at Rs 120 per kg. Similarly, green chilly is sold at Rs 150 to 180 per kg, which was Rs 100 per kg earlier.
Similarly, bitter gourd is sold at Rs 100 per kg as against the earlier price of Rs 30, brinjal at Rs 80 per kg, ladies finger at Rs 80 per kg and cauliflower is sold at Rs 100 per kg against the earlier price Rs 45 per kg.
A housewife, Nandini said, "Due to high price rise, kitchen budget has increased. While the income has been hit due to Covid 18, expenditure has increased manifold." A commission agent in vegetable market Binod Singh said, " Heavy rainfall has caused colossal loss to the vegetables."
