Road accidents in Chhattisgarh have fallen by 23.71 per cent, the police department said on Friday.
Rash driving, however, remains the major factor claiming the highest number of human lives in road accidents (77.42 percent), it said in a press release. In all, 2,445 lives were lost due to rash driving.
As compared to January-September last year, this year in the same time frame accidents reduced by 23.71 percent in Chhattisgarh. Deaths also went down by 17.63 percent, it said.
This year, 8,075 road accidents were reported in which 3,158 people died and 7,513 were injured.
Of 8,075 cases, 2,903 accidents proved fatal. Moreover, in 486 cases people were seriously injured. In 3,893 cases, people suffered minor injuries and in 793 cases no injuries were reported, the release said.
As per police data, National Highways saw 864 deaths and State Highways 684. On other roads, 1,610 people died.
Bike riders constituted the highest numbers of fatalities (1,223). Car and light four-wheelers claimed 308 deaths.
Police figures said 16.97 percent people lost their lives in heavy vehicle truck or trailer accidents.
