Gaining momentum in its campaign against power theft, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has achieved grand success. As many as 125 teams from PSPCL Distribution (south zone) conducted mass raids early morning on August 24 (Monday) checking premises of 4150 consumers. A penalty of Rs 1.01 crores has been imposed on 302 consumers on account of theft of electricity, 108 consumers charged for unauthorized extension and six consumers found for UE.
PSPCL chief engineer south zone R.S.Saini said that during raids in Patiala circle 32 teams have checked the premises of 1628 consumers, in which 132 nos consumers charged fine for rupees 26.53 lacs. He said that 22 distribution teams in Barnala circle checked the electricity connections of 700 consumers and imposed a fine of 24.85 lacs, 52 consumers found for theft of power and 10 nos consumers fines for UUE.
Similarly 28 distribution teams of Sangrur circle raided on the electricity connections of 672 consumers imposed fine of rupees 21.55 LACS in which 79 consumers found indulging in theft and 54 nos consumers fined for UUE.
Saini appealed to the consumers to deposit their electricity bills well in time to avoid the disconnection in case of default in making payment of electricity bills.
He said that the campaign against theft of power will continue and requested consumers not to indulge in theft of energy as this leads to heavy fines, police action and more over harassment to consumers.
