A contract labourer went missing and half-a-dozen workers had a narrow escape when a landslide shook the Kusmunda mines of the South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) in Chhattisgarh on Thursday during heavy rains.
The landslide occurred around 9.00 am when the labourers of Kedar Singh were working. Labourer Suresh also tried to escape like his colleagues but he was not seen after the incident, a SECL worker told The Pioneer on phone on condition of anonymity.
He might have been trapped under the debris of coal and mud, the worker added.
SECL officers and the Superintendent of Police and other policemen reached the spot later.
A SDRF team from Bilaspur also reached the spot but the missing man was not found. Darkness brought an end to the rescue operations and these will resume on Friday morning, the police said.
