Police here have detained a local branch manager of the Manappuram Finance Ltd, a gold loan providing non-banking financial company, in connection with the recent Rs 20-crore IIFL Nayasarak branch gold robbery here, informed City DCP Prateek Singh.
“One person has been detained and is now being questioned by the investigating police team in connection with the robbery,” Singh said, adding that police have now also got the court’s permission to take five of the seven arrested in the robbery case on remand for three days.
Lala Amrit Ray, the gold appraiser of IIFL who was arrested on Tuesday, is among the five to be questioned in custody; It has been ascertained that Ray was regularly utilising the mortgaged gold of IIFL to take loan from Manappuram.
