Gopalpur Port plans LNG, petrochem plants

The Gopalpur Port Limited (GPL), Gopalpur in Ganjam district has proposed to the State Government to set up a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, fertilizer and petrochemical industries and an edible oil refinery in the State.

GPL MD Amit Saboo briefed Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy in Bhubaeswar in this regard recently. The company would invest more than Rs 2,000 crore for the proposed projects.

Tripathy expressed satisfaction over the GPL investment plan. Other issues relating to difficulties in transportation of iron ores were also discussed between them.

Tripathy directed the Steel and Mines Department to resolve the issue.

GPL CEO Sandeep Agarwal briefed the CS about ongoing activities amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and expansion proposals. He said out of 1,200 acres, 393 acres have been handed over to them so far and sought allotment of the rest land as early as possible.
