The motorists in Chandigarh will now be able to pay on-the-spot fines using cashless means and from homes using online payment gateway with Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore inaugurating the state-of-the-art e-challan system here.
“Chandigarh is one of the first few states and UTs in the country that have introduced this modern traffic enforcement system. With e-challan, motorists can pay fine at-the-spot using cashless means and from their homes using an online payment gateway. Chandigarh Traffic Police has made certain unique additions that have added immense value to this system. These add-ons have made the system more robust by keeping a tab on habitual offenders, initiating online process for suspension of license of erring drivers and digitally linking the courts,” said an official spokesman.
On the occasion, Chandigarh Traffic Police has sent bulk SMS to over 60,000 motorists informing them about online payment gateway for payment against their pending postal challans.
“The e-challan project has been implemented in Chandigarh with zero cost to the Department in association with NIC, SPIC and Axis Bank. Axis Bank has provided 200 handheld e-Challan devices, the spokesman said.
