Border with C'garh poorly guarded near U'kote

Tuesday, 31 March 2020 | MONOHAR MOHANTY | UMARKOTE

As a precautionary measure to prevent COVID-19, the State Government has decided not to allow the movement of people and vehicles from the other States exempting  the transportation  of necessary goods during the 21-day nationwide lockdown called by the Prime Minister.

But here it is seen the opposite. Dondasara check post adjoining Chhattisgarh is only 10 km from here. It is poorly guarded by the police. No police personnel are deployed  to curb the movement of people from the State of Chhattisgarh where seven persons have been found coronavirus positive by now.

Umarkote is the second largest town of the district and the commercial hugnpub of the district. It completely depends upon the neighbouring State for various purposes. The people from both sides cross the border every day for business purpose in normal time. But the detection of seven coronavirious patients in in Raipur has created havoc here.

Only a few Gram Rakhis have been deployed by the police in the check-post following an outcry of villagers. People are travelling from both sides flouting the very purpose of social distancing.
