The Bharatiya Bikash Parishad (BBP) observed the 56th Saheed Divas (death anniversary) of noted leader of students’ movement in Ganjam Basanta Acharya on a virtual mode here on Thursday morning.The speakers recalled the contributions of Acharya, who had led the great student’s movement in Ganjam in 1960s.
Because of his leadership, the Brahmapur University and the MKCG Medical College Hospital could become a reality, said BBP State president Surendra Panigrahi.
The historic student’s movement led by Acharya had also spread to other cities like, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Sambalpur. Basanta Acharya died on October 29, 1964.
Among others, Kishore Chandra Patra, Guru Charan Patra, Ramesh Chandra Sahu, Lalit Mohan Padhi, Balakrushna Samantara, Manas Dash, Manoj Padhi, Gourisankar Mohanty, Debendra Sahu, Suasanta Sasmal and Mihir Mishra were present.
