A consignment of 51 Tata Ace (Chhota Hathi) was sent to Bangladesh from Uttarakhand on Saturday. The Izzatnagar division of the North Eastern Railway zone has earned more than Rs 14 lakh revenue from freight charges on transporting the vehicles to the neighbouring country.
The divisional rail manager (DRM) Dinesh Kumar Singh informed the media here on Sunday that a consignment of 51 Tata Ace vehicles was sent from the Haldi Road railway station here for Benapole in Bangladesh.
The railway division earned a revenue of Rs 14.21 lakh from this consignment.
The DRM further informed that this revenue has been generated from new traffic as in the past this product used to be transported by road.
He further informed that after formation of the business development unit, this is the third consignment with the division having earned more than Rs 1.25 crore so far from new rail traffic.
Expressing happiness at the consignment received following the efforts of the business development unit, Singh said that positive signs are being received from the business fraternity and industrial groups for transporting freight by trains following improvements made in the facilities in godowns.
Chief commercial manager Neetu said that due to the efforts of the business development unit, the division expects that in the near future various industrial groups and businesses in the area under the division will opt to transport their goods by train.
