The number of Covid-19 cases is likely to increase in coming days in the State with the drop in temperature and humidity, said Institute of Life Science (ILS), Bhubaneswar Director Ajay Parida on Friday.
“In many cases, it has been found that the number of cases is increasing in winter. If proper precautions are not taken, the infection can spread in coming days,” he said.
Dr Parida stated that the number of cases is on the decline in the State with around 1,500 cases being reported daily in the last couple of days. Though it was expected that the cases would increase during the festive season, the number of infections was controlled due to people’s cooperation and preparedness,” he observed. He further cautioned that the State is also witnessing cases of re-infection. However, this number in Odisha is less as compared to other States.
So far, three to four people in the State have tested positive for the virus for a second time, he pointed out. Moreover, there is a possibility of second wave of the infection in the State, Parida said and advised people need to be very careful. Notably, meanwhile, the State Government has initiated a process for preparation of a database of healthcare workers and Anganwadi Workers for Covid-19 vaccination in view of the Union Government’s expectation that a Covid-19 vaccine is likely to be available in the country soon.
