The Baliapal police stepped up investigation detaining a man after a body of a 24-year-old woman was found on Sunday under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased, identified as Sonali Patra, was a resident of Chaumukh village. She had gone to a betel vineyard for watering plants near her house at around 9 am and didn’t return home.
The family members while began searching, they found her body burried under a sand heap. The body bore some injury marks suggesting rape and strangulation before murder.
Although she was rushed to a local community health centre, yet the doctor declared her brought dead.
During the incident her husband, Janmejaya Patra, a tractor driver, was out of house and working near Haldipada . After receiving information while he was rushing back to his home on his bike, he met with an accident near Langaleswar. He is undergoing treatment in the District Headquarters Hospital in serious condition.
The postmortem report was awaited, said police and detained a person who was working in his field adjacent to the betel vine yard when the deceased was watering plants.
Baliapal IIC Bimal Nayak said, “The accused person was apprehended and interrogated. Soon the mystery behind the crime would be unearthed.”
