The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) on Friday organised a zonal convention involving Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Kendrapda and Jagatsinghpur in protest against the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Teachers, students and parents of schools and colleges participated in the conventions.
AIDSO State committee vice-president Somnath Behera, Jagatsinghpur DIET teacher Manoj Kumar Lenka graced the event as guests. Cuttack committee president Bhagyarabi Das presided over the meeting. Secretary Binod Sethy spoke aout the convention wnd vice-president Tarunasena Nayak inaugurated the event.
Speakers opined that the NEP 2020 is meant to encourage commercialisation and privatisation of the education sector. It would give benefits to capitalists in the country and abroad. The proposed 5+3+3+4 would destroy education at primary and secondary levels, they alleged.
They also wanted to know why the NEP is silent on the pass and fail aspects. “Qualitative education will never be enhanced at school level. Provisions of lifting of Science, Arts and Commerce at degree level s, introduction a four-year degree course, unitary entrance for the entire country, giving importance on Sanskrit and limiting use of English for conversation are against qualitative education system.
The entire education system has been opened for commercialization in the world market by making divisions in the higher education sector in the name of inter-discipline,” they alleged. They said the Union Government has forcibly brought the NEP without holding discussion with people in a democratic way. They urged all to protest the National Education Policy strongly before that is enforced as a law.
