Ahead of the first anniversary of the Abrogation of Article 370 and reorganisation of the erstwhile State of Jammu & Kashmir into two Union Territories on August 5, Lt-Gov Girish Chander Murmu arrived in Jammu where he inaugurated several developmental projects including a much-awaited cable car project between Bahu and Mahamaya temples on Monday.
Operationalisation of Jammu Ropeway will boost the pilgrimage tourism as it connects the three major temples of Jammu city; the Jamvant Gufa (Peerkho Temple), Mahamaya Temple and Bahu Fort Temple and will provide recreational facility to Jammuites which was long pending aspiration of people. At the venue of the cable car project, the Lt Governor and the First Lady Dr. Smita Murmu, took the maiden ride of the cable car after the inaugural function. He hailed the project and hoped that the service would become a major highlight of Jammu city. On spot directions were issued by the Lt Governor to keep the service free for the general public for the first 15 days of operation. He also called for constructing a gaming zone for kids and keeping special concessional rates for students and senior citizens.
During the day, Lt-Gov Murmu also dedicated to public different infrastructure development projects of the Power Development Department executed under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes.According to a government spokesman, “Overall 49 completed projects were inaugurated at the cost of Rs 81.15 Cr on Monday”.
“There shall be a capacity addition of 250 MW and improved power supply to 31000 Domestic, Commercial consumers, 300 Industrial Units, 40 villages, 200 commercial hotels, 60 government establishments and various tourist Spots”. The spokesman said, projects, for which foundation stone was laid today, shall be completed over a period of six months.
In the Horticulture Planning & Marketing department, three projects were e-inaugurated: e- National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) for Fruit &Vegetable Market Narwal, Jammu , Fruit & Vegetable Market, Bishnah and Apni Mandi Chadwal, Kathua.
Earlier in the day Lt Gov GC Murmu also visited Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural sciences where he inaugurated the new infrastructural blocks including building of Ujala PG Girls Hostel, Residential Quarters for Teaching staff and a Bedside Oxygen facility established at the University Health Centre in view of Covid-19 Pandemic.
