During his maiden visit to Jammu on Friday Lt-Governor J&K Manoj Sinha inaugurated Phase-I of the 58.25 Km long Jammu ring road between Akhnoor road, Kangrail and Bhalwal.
The foundation stone of the ring road was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2018.
The project, funded under Prime Ministers Development fund, is scheduled to be completed at an estimated cost of 2024 crores in December 2021.
The 8 km long road link, inaugurated today missed the earlier deadline of March 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Once completed the ring road will provide smooth connectivity to the commuters between Samba and Nagrota. The road link is going to connect 60 villages along the route. 54 villages fall in Jammu district and six others in Samba district.
Official sources claimed, the Jammu Ring Road will help ease chaos and traffic within the city by connecting peripheries of the city directly, reducing distance and travel time between other districts of the UT.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha termed roads as vital for any society to progress. He urged the executing agencies for early completion of the entire project and assured incentives to the executing agencies and officers for completing projects within stipulated time period.
The LG also commended district administration of Jammu and Samba for timely land acquisition and prompt removal of bottlenecks in the execution of the project.
MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh; Member of Parliament, Shamsher Singh Manhas; Member of Parliament, Jugal Kishore Sharma and Chief Secretary, BVR Subrahmanyam along with senior officers of the district administration and police attended the inauguration ceremony. Later, Lt-Governor met several delegations at Raj Bhawan and interacted with former legislators, delegation of J&K High Court Bar Association,Jammu, ex- Auqaf Chairperson and a delegation of West Pakistan Refugees.
A delegation of Federation of Industries from Jammu province led by Lalit Mahajan also called on Lt-Governor here at Raj Bhavan.
Industrialists demanded an industrial package to compensate the losses incurred due to withdrawal of incentives after imposition of GST in 2017 and due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
A deputation of the Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, led by its President, Prof. Lalit Mangotra, apprised the Lt Governor about various demands and issues pertaining to the promotion and popularization of Dogri language, literature and culture.
A delegation of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu led by its President, Abhinav Sharma, submitted a memorandum of demands to the Lt Governor pertaining to increasing the number of Judges in the Subordinate and Higher Judiciary; sanctioning stipend to new entrants in the profession as done in other States/UTs.
