55% Indians have faced nepotism in their career

Based on a recent poll conducted by Inshorts, 80% Indians believe that nepotism i.e. use of power in order to get jobs and other benefits for your family or friends over others isn't a good practice. 55% of these participants, at some point, have faced nepotism in their careers. Additionally, 51% participants believe that it is not only Bollywood that faces nepotism.

58% believe that it can be controlled or reduced and 62% participants will not consider taking a job/promotion by taking a favour from a friend or relative in power. The poll was conducted as a part of the Inshorts Pulse of the nation poll. More than two lakh app users responded.

Nepotism has been a topic of debate since quite long - and it is quite common for people to use their contacts to get a job, internship or a break in career. Be it Bollywood, politics or any other industry, the discussion of merit vs privilege cannot be silenced anymore.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras is all set to offer a full semester, one-of-its-kind course under the interdisciplinary stream on Biomimicry. As the name suggests is to imitate or look at Nature as a source of inspiration to solve complex problems.

It is the intersection of biology and engineering. You do not have to be either a biologist or an engineer to learn biomimicry, all you need is curiosity.

The course has potential not only in engineering, technology and design, but also in areas like management, human resources, administration, social sciences and the arts. School children can benefit from learning biomimicry and can lead to not just innovating from Nature but also creating a sustainable way of life.
