Wild Life Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Jabalpur in coordination with Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted a one-day awareness training programme on “Prevention of wildlife crime and trafficking / smuggling of wildlife products” at Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur on Tuesday.
Around 40 airport officials from AAI, BCAS, CISF, Indigo Airlines, Vistara Airlines and Air India, mainly engaged in screening / checking / operational duties participated in the workshop.
Regional deputy director, WCCB, Jabalpur A. Roy Chowdhury briefed the participants about various aspects of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and explained to them in details about various endangered species of animals and plants and how to control their trafficking.
He also explained legality and procedures to be followed on detection of prohibited animal or plant products during check-in at airport.
Raipur airport director Rakesh Ranjan Sahay appreciated the knowledge gained in session conducted by WCCB. He further added, “Airport officials are mainly trained on safety and security aspect for safe journey. By this training, participated airport officials have gained knowledge about control of trafficking/smuggling of prohibited animals or plants and its product, which definitely added advantages and values to their job.”
