Throwing crackers at animals an offence

Saturday, 26 October 2019 | PNS | JIBAN BALLAV DAS

Animals are very sensitive to sound. On the evening of Diwali when we all will be enjoying the occasion by colourful light and sound the innocent animals will be running here and there to protect themselves from high decibel sounds around them.

Some people also intentionally throw crackers specially at dogs to enjoy their pain and suffering. By that the dogs run here and there and also sometimes cause accident to riders of bike and car which is very much dangerous for both the life of animal and man. We have seen many instances on the aftermath Diwali, thousands of birds, dogs and other animals having died out of fear of shock and accidents. So it will be proper to call upon one and all to enjoy  the Diwali with all colourful lights but not sounds which put the animal life in danger.

People who intentionally throw crackers to torture any animal are culprits in eyes of law. As per the section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, beats, kicks, over-rides, over-drives, over-loads, tortures which cause pain or suffering to any animal is treated as violation the Act, which leads to fine and imprisonment or both.

Section 429 of Indian Penal Code  also prohibits such act which leads to threat to animal life and violation of such section lead to both fine and imprisonment. Article 51-A(g) states that duty of every Citizen of India is to have compassion for all living creatures. So throwing crackers can cause accident which is a serious threat not only for the animals but also for the humans. So let's keep away from such type of inhuman acts and make the Diwali happy for all living creatures.

We have also written to police to keep eye on this and action will be taken against those who will be torturing any animals by throwing crackers intentionally. Volunteers of People for Animals with an ambulance will remain alert and move different parts of the Capital city on the eve of Diwali to rescue animals that will be injured by crackers and accidents. People can call for any type of animal related emergencies to : 9937775147.
