Tension still prevails; Baliapal IIC shifted

Tension continued to prevail in Baliapal of Baleswar district on Saturday after the body of a minor boy was found hanging in a dhaba near IDCO Square in the area on Friday.

In the morning, irate locals detained the driver of an ambulance and two policemen near at Uluda Chhak on the Kamarda-Baliapal road complaining against postmortem of the deceased’s body in the absence of his family members.

Sources said the District Magistrate had on Friday ordered postmortem of the body.

But police did not take the body since it was evening by the time. When the cops took the body the early in morning, locals staged a demonstration.

Demanding a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the deceased and immediate arrest of he accused in the ‘murder’, irate locals also staged a road blockade at Uluda Chhak disrupting vehicular communications.

In a related development, Baliapal police station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Prabhukalyan Acharya was transferred with immediate effect.

As per reports, Baleswar SP Jugal Kishor Banoth transferred the IIC to the district police headquarters here. Remuna PS IIC Ranjit Sahu was posted in his place.

Besides, Director General of Police (DGP) Dr RP Sharma on Saturday directed the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of the Odisha Police to take up investigation of the case. A team of the HRPC under the charge of Investigating Officer DSP Ranjit Naik proceeded from Cuttack to Baleswar to take charge of the probe.
