The Ranchi – Dehri-on-Sone intercity ran on the Tori-Lohardaga railway line on Sunday for the first time, proving it to be a successful trial run. The Ranchi-Dehri-on-Sone train was flagged off by Palamu MP VD Ram and State Health minister Ramchander Chandravanshi in Daltonganj.
From Monday the train will run on regular basis from Ranchi to Dehri-on-Sone on all days (except Saturday). The train 18635/18636 will run on the route.
Train number 18635 Ranchi-Dehi-on-Sone on Monday will leave Ranchi station at 5.15 pm while reach Piska at 5.32 pm, Nagjua station at 6.01 pm, reaching Lohardaga at 6.22 pm. The train next destination will be at Tori reaching at 7.12pm, Latehar at 7.58 pm, Barwadih at 8.42 pm, Daltonganj at 9.22pm, Garhwa road 10.10 pm, Dehri-on-Sone 11.30pm. The same train, next day will leave from Dehri-on-Sone at 4 am reaching Ranchi at 10.05 am. The train will have ten coaches which including seven general, two sleepers and one AC chair car.
Suhas Lokhare, senior PRO, Ranchi Division said, “The train was flagged off today, but from Monday will run on regular basis from Ranchi to Dehri-on-Sone via Lohardaga/Tori route.”
Meanwhile, Palamu MP VD Ram said, “The starting of new train will be great advantage to passengers at Lohardaga, Latehar and Daltonganj. The train route will also shorten the travel time between Ranchi and Dehri-on-Sone.” Ram further said that new train route will help in economic development of people living at Lohardaga, Latehar and Tori area.
The new train route is milestone for Ranchi-Lohardaga train route. The history of Lohardaga narrow guage train began with laying of tracks in 1911. The first train on the route, comprising two wooden carriages pulled by a steam engine, was flagged off on October 6, 1913.
The 68 kilometres railway track (Ranchi Lohardaga) was converted from narrow gauge to broad gauge in 2005. The track was extended 44 km more to connect with Tori railway station in Chandwa town in Latehar district. The new train route will reduce railway distance between Ranchi and Delhi and the railway travel time by three hours.
