Maoists have put up posters in several parts of Malkangiri and Rayagada districts appealing to people to make their ‘Martyrs Week’ a success, which began on Sunday.
Keeping in view the observance of the week by the CPI(Maoists) from July 28 to August 3, security has been heightened in the Maoist-infested districts and security forces are on high alert to avert any untoward incident in the State.
The Odisha-Chhattisgarh border has been sealed while combing operation intensified in Malkangiri following the encounter in which seven Maoists were gunned down in Bastar district in Chhattisgarh on Saturday.
“We have alerted all police stations and combing operations in interior areas close to the border with Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh are underway by police, CRPF and BSF,” said Malkangiri district SP Jagmohan Meena.
As a preventive measure, Government buses stayed off roads in Malkangiri, Rayagada and other parts.
“CRPF and other forces are on alert while patrolling and regular combing operations are being conducted in
sensitive areas,” said
Rayagada district SP Saravana Vivek M.
Sources said police have been advised to observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) strictly during the Martyrs Week.
