In order to provide cheap charging facility to the general public, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) to install electric public vehicle charging points at 18 parking lots in its jurisdiction.
Commissioner SDMC Gyanesh Bharti said EESL will be installing these stations as per the guidelines of Ministry of Power which will cater to the requirements of electric cars of general public.
The Commissioner also said the electric public vehicle charging stations will hopefully boost sale of electric public vehicle and will contribute in decreasing pollution in Delhi.
Bharti further said that such charging points will be installed at 75 selected locations in second phase.
SDMC has already installed 119 electric public vehicle charging stations in various municipal buildings to cater the requirement of its 75 electric cars being used for official purposes by municipal officials.
Union Minister of Power R K Singh said that Government of India has mission to provide that we will reduce the carbon footprint to take care of our environment. We believe to grow responsibly. Our Government objective is to use of clean fuel and become less dependent on fossil fuel under which anybody can charge its e-vehicle anywhere, he said.
Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal congratulated SDMC, said that the project is as per the Central Government vision of providing clean environment and going away with the use of fossil fuel which creates pollution. L-G further said that Government is planning to do away with the conversion charges for the land used for installation of e-vehicle public charging station.
