Come June and door to door collection of garbage will begin in Roorkee, claim the municipal authorities. Following the proposal of municipal corporation to collect user charges of Rs 50 per house, it was decided that the amount would be charged from the houses in Roorkee. The Urban Development minister Madan Kaushik has sanctioned the proposal. The same will be implemented in Shivalik Nagar municipality as well from June.
Door to door collection of garbage will be started by the municipality in all the wards of Shivalik Nagar. The municipality is also mulling over increasing the number of employees for sanitation works. The Urban Development minister has given green signal to all the proposals made by the municipal board for implementation of user charges. Notably ever since Shivalik Nagar municipality came into existence, the residents were demanding these facilities.
Speaking to The Pioneer, municipality chairman Rajeev Sharma said, “The facility of garbage collection from 27000 families residing in Shivalik Nagar will be started. We have decided to collect Rs 75 from each family as user charge per month.” When asked why the user charges were more for Shivalik Nagar than in other places, Sharma justified saying the agency ITC Sunehra Kal Foundation has been given the responsibility of waste collection. While Rs 50 per family will go to the agency and Rs 25 will be kept by the municipal body. About 3000 families in Shivalik Nagar have not given their consent for garbage collection so they would be issued notices, he said.
