The State Government has roped in a private consultancy firm which would check the quality of all the projects worth more than Rs 5 Crores under the Public Works Department (PWD). This selected company, Sri Ram consultant private limited would assess the quality of the works in two stages, first at completion of 50 percent of the work and second on completion.
The additional chief secretary, Om Prakash said that the firm would check all projects like construction of roads, bridges and buildings undertaken by the PWD under the state sector and the projects funded by NABARD. He said that the letter regarding appointment of the consultant has been sent to the chief engineer, PWD.
Om Prakash said that the department level quality checks of these projects would continue like before. He said that punitive action would be undertaken against the officers concerned if after the quality check by consultant, lack of transparency is found in the report of the department. The technical advisor of PWD, R P Bhatt said that from 2014 on-wards the quality assessment in the works of PWD were at the level of Chief engineer and the SEs.
