Raipur Municipal Corporation Mayor Pramod Dubey has announced that the city residents can pay property tax for the current fiscal based on the last year’s tax rate.

During the general body meeting of Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) held on Monday, a unanimous decision was taken to remove the word ‘Provisional’ from property tax, and revenue department will issue a new order instead.

The general body meeting witnessed acrimonious scene as RMC Leader of Opposition alleged ‘threats’ were being issued for recovery of property tax from residents. The women corporators also raised the issue and became too vocal. Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janta Party Corporators alleged that Congress has not fulfilled the poll promise of reducing the power tariff and the property tax to half.

Mayor then made the declaration that property tax will not be charged based on the GIS online system, which has several glitches, causing problem for residents due to disparity in existing property tax rates.

The general body before commencement of meeting paid rich tributes to more than 40 CRPF jawans killed in terrorists attack at Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting was adjourned for 10 minutes as mark of respect. It was also decided to install the portrait of Kargil War martyr Shahid Kaushal Yadav in the general body meeting hall of the RMC, as there is no statue of his in the city.

Discussion was also held to organize several entertainment and cultural events at Telibandha Marine Drive venue.
