Angry over the slow pace of restoration works even nine long days after the Cyclone Fani, people continued to take to the streets in different parts of the State on Sunday.
Locals blocked the Bhubaneswar-Puri road at Samatarapur over non-restoration of power supply.
“It is almost 10 days that power is yet to be restored in our area. We are facing problems due to lack of electricity and drinking water,” said a resident.
Apart from Bhubaneswar, hundreds of residents under Kaduapada gram panchayat in Jagatsinghpur district blocked the Jagatsinghpur-Machhagaon road protesting non-restoration of power supply.
“There has been massive destruction in the district due to the cyclone. Though10 days have passed, there is no power supply in the area which is compounding our problems,” said a protester.
Several vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road for hours due to the blockade.
In Cuttack district, residents of Talbasta panchayat under Banki block resorted to a similar protest. The locals blocked Khordha-Talabasta road near Champatipur alleging lack of power supply to the area. “The villagers restored the electric poles on their own while the electricity staffs did not show any interest in speeding up their works. Officials had promised us to restore electricity within 30 minutes after restoration work was completed, but we are yet to get electricity,” said a resident, adding that such protests would continue until electricity is restored.
