Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said that more roads will be added under the Smart City project. He said that a proposal has been submitted by the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) in which the numbers of the roads that were supposed to get upgraded have been increased.
He said, “Earlier very few roads were included under the Smart City project. For example, very few roads were covered in the earlier plan in areas like Dilaram Chowk and in Rispana but now maximum area will be covered. We have sent a proposal with a new plan that increases the area of the roads for upgrade under the project. Some of the projects that were sent by us in the past have also been accepted under the Smart City project. Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has recently passed proposals for various works. We are positive that this proposal will also get approved too and the work on this will start after the monsoon.”
When asked about the budget for the upgrade in the proposed roads he said, “Nearly Rs 500 crore has been passed for various works under Smart City project. For the increased number of roads, a separate budgetary allocation will be made.”
About other development scheme under the project he said, “Tenders for the smart traffic lights and electric buses have been cleared and work has also been started. Nearly 12 smart traffic lights will be installed from Rispana to Mussorie diversion for which the work has already been started. The water ATM’s are already getting installed in different parts of the city. Our proposal for the underground duct has also been accepted and the fund is also provided to us. The work will start soon after the departure of the monsoon season.”
