At a time when the GDP has dipped to 4.5% during the second quarter of 2019, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Pramod Kumar Mishra here on Friday gave a rosy picture of the country’s economic scene from 2014 to 2019 and claimed that the country is heading to become a five-trillion dollar economy.
Mishra said this while addressed the convocation of the Sambalpur University, Burla.
However, he admitted that “India has witnessed an economic slowdown.” He said the slow-down in ‘global growth output’ is a major reason behind the slow down. But at the same time, he said, “The Prime Minister’s vision of a new India with five trillion dollar economy by 2024 is an ambitious aspiration. We are on track and fully committed to achieve it,” said Mishra.
Mishra, through very clumsy facts and figures, was highlighting the economic growth of 7.5 growth rate of GDP during 2014 to 2019.
Appealing the degree holders in different streams, Mishra advised them to be grateful to countless people who made it possible for them to get degrees and medals.
Remembering the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Mishra appealed to students to do duties to benefit fellow being, society and the generation to come and to the world at large.
“If we will be conscious of our duties, that would be the best tribute to Mahatma Gandhi,” he said further. He also expressed his utmost pleasure as he himself is a product of the university.
At the outset, Vice Chancellor Dr Deepak Behera highlighted about various achievements of the university in spite of a number of hurdles, including staff and financial crunch. “Still the university has got ‘A’ grade from NAAC,” the VC informed. He also urged to convert this university to a Central cadre university.
Chancellor of Universities and Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal said that the first convocation of world was Lord Krishn’s advice to Arjun during the Mahabharat battle. Then only Arjun could understand his purpose of coming to the earth. “Hence, education has its own strength,” said the Governor.
Talking about modern amenities, he said, “Internet must be connected to inner net.” He also cited the desire of the Prime Minister to make India glowing both morally and technically. “Let’s go to the world with flower path,” he said.
On this occasion, the Chancellor gave away, PhD, DLit, DSc and Gold Medals to students and researchers. Among prominent personalities, BARC Director Dr Ajit Kumar Mohanty and renowned cine artist Atal Panda were given honourary doctorate degrees by the Sambalpur University.
