In the politically troubled-torn Brahamgiri constituency, there is a clear indication that the fight is mostly between the BJD and the BJP in the upcoming Assembly election.

So far as the Congress is concerned, it is still in search of a suitable candidate when filing of nomination is just a couple of days away. The trouble for Congress is the party lacks a face after the demise of firebrand leader and two-time MLA Lalatendu Bidyadhar (Lulu) Mohapatra.

Lulu’s younger brother Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra, who is in the ticket race in the BJP, is going to use all his might to get back his family seat. Hence, the fight would be tough this time, sources said.

Though, tickets in both the BJD and the BJP are yet not finalised, sitting MLA Sanjay Dasburma (BJD) and Lalitendu are ahead in the race in their respective parties. For Dasburma, who is a former Minister and frontline leader of BJD, besides its youth wing leader, the election is a prestige issue.

While Dasburma eyes for a third time victory in Brahmagiri after consecutive two terms based on developmental works over ten years since 2009, Mohapatra will basically capitalize brother Lulu’s fame and sympathy after his demise.

Though the number of applicants for ticket in the BJD is unclear, but sources said that the chairman of Brahmagiri block Krusnachandra Roy is also in the race to replace Das Burma.  As is learnt, Roy has started lobbying in headquarters for ticket, since Dasburma has already enjoyed 10 years and is surrounded by disputes after the chit fund scam.
