The dominance of girl students over boys in board examination continued in the results of class XII and X declared by the Uttarakhand board on Thursday. The results of the Uttarakhand Vidhyalayi Shiksha Parishad (UVSP) termed Uttarakhand Board in popular parlance were released by the Chairman of UVSP and education director R K Kunwar at Ramnagar on the day.
In class XII, 76.29 percent boys cleared the examinations as compared with 83.79 percent of girls; the overall pass percentage in class XII was pegged at 80.13. Similarly in class X, the girls with a pass percentage of 82.46 were much ahead of boys who had a pass percentage of 70.60 percent only.
In class XII, Shatakshi Tiwari of Saraswati Vidhya Mandir Inter College (SVMIC) , Chinyalisaur in Uttarkashi district got 98 percent marks ( 490 out of 500) to secure first rank. Shaksham, also from this school got 97.80 marks to secure first place among the boys.
In class X, Ananta Saklani of SVMIC, Nathuwawala, Dehradun district topped the merit with 99 percent marks. She scored 495 marks out of 500. Arpit Barthwal of SVM Inter College, Awas Vikas, Rishikesh got 98.60 percent marks to secure first position among boys. The results of class X showed an improvement of 1.86 percent from last year while in class XII this improvement is 1.16 percent.
Releasing the results, the board Chairman, R K Kunwar said that in class X, a total 146584 students appeared in the examination and out of them 112036 cleared the examination. He further informed that 122618 students appeared in the examination and 982362 were declared pass in the examination. Kunwar said that it is a good sign that the pass percentage of Uttarakhand board is increasing steadily.
